Non-native English speakers: IELTS 6 or above, Duolingo English Test 120 or above, or TOEFL iBT. TOEFL exams taken before January 21, 2026 require at least 90 on the 0–120 scale; exams taken on or after January 21, 2026 require at least 4.5 on the 1–6 scale. TOEFL institution code: 6210. Standardized-test exemptions: SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing 650 or above, or both ACT Reading and English 27 or above, may exempt applicants from these English tests. Mathematics

A CSCA Mathematics score is required. Applicants who have not taken CSCA may initially submit SAT, ACT, A-Level, IB (code N010601), UEC, UNT or other test scores for review. Successful applicants receive a pre-admission notice and must submit CSCA scores by June 30, 2027; a formal admission notice follows the final selection. SAT, ACT, A-Level, IB, UEC, UNT and other test scores cannot replace CSCA.

Program note

Program structure: the first 1.5 years cover introductory engineering at the Global College. Students may then remain there or transfer to another engineering school to finish the bachelor degree; courses at receiving schools may be taught in English or Chinese. Major options: the Global College offers Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Data Science and Big Data Technology, and Computer Science and Technology; Robotics is planned. Other options are Materials Science and Engineering at the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Automation at the School of Automation and Intelligent Sensing, Computer Science and Technology at the School of Computer Science, and Mechanical Engineering or Power and Energy Engineering at the School of Mechanical Engineering. The list may change according to the schools and programs open to Cluster students after 1.5 years. Application route: complete the Common Application first, then follow the SJTU Portal procedure after preliminary review and receipt of the portal messages. Admission process: comprehensive evaluation, with tuition prepayment in the application system within two weeks after admission results to confirm enrollment. Admission notices are issued on a rolling basis in July 2027; term starts in early September 2027, with the exact date on the admission letter. Historical score reference: the middle 50% of the 2026 first-year admitted class had SAT total 1390–1500 and Math 750–790, or ACT total 30–34 and Math 33–35. These are historical admitted-score distributions, not minimum 2027 admission cutoffs. University scholarships: select the scholarship option in the SJTU application for Shanghai Government or SJTU scholarships. The published coverage period is four years. First class covers tuition, a RMB 2,500/month living allowance, RMB 1,100/month accommodation subsidy and RMB 800/academic-year insurance; second class covers 50% tuition, accommodation subsidy and insurance; third class covers 25% tuition and insurance. Concurrent scholarships are not allowed, and results are announced with admission results. CSC route: contact the local Chinese embassy or consulate for its dates and requirements and select SJTU as first choice. Coverage follows CSC regulations; SJTU provides a RMB 1,100/month accommodation subsidy instead of free on-campus accommodation. Insurance: international students studying for more than six months must buy group comprehensive insurance in the Chinese mainland; estimated cost is RMB 800 per academic year and fees may change.
