Language requirements

The program is conducted in both Chinese and English. Applicants must have a Chinese language proficiency of at least 195 points on the HSK4. Additionally, non-native English speakers must meet the minimum English proficiency requirement: IELTS 7 or TOEFL iBT 103 (for tests taken prior to January 21, 2026) /5.5 (for tests taken on or after January 21, 2026). Applicants may be exempt from submitting an HSK under the following circumstances: 1) They have completed at least two years of education in China and can speak Chinese fluently during the admission interview; 2) They have completed master's level studies in Chinese and are fluent in Chinese during the admission interview. The Chinese catalogue additionally requires IELTS subscores of at least 6; the English paragraph omits this detail. Confirm the subscore requirement with the program.

Applicants who completed undergraduate or master's studies in Chinese may provide a certificate from their graduating institution and, after approval by the applied school or department, be exempted from the HSK certificate. Master's applicants must submit their bachelor's degree certificate. Degrees awarded overseas require authentication by CSCSE
Degrees awarded by Chinese mainland universities require authentication by CSSD (the CHSI credential-verification authority). Applicants who will not graduate before the deadline may first submit an expected-graduation certificate and must provide the degree certificate and authentication before registration. Applicants who have graduated must submit the authentication with the application.
