This program is a joint program between Tsinghua University and Columbia University. Candidates must pass the comprehensive selection examination organized by Tsinghua University (which includes a joint review by experts from Columbia University) to obtain the preliminary admission qualification. Nationality: A valid ordinary foreign passport and eligibility under PRC nationality law are required. Former Chinese nationals must have held foreign nationality for at least six years by April 30, 2027. Foreign-born applicants with Chinese parent(s) must submit nationality evidence according to their parents’ settlement status at birth and the applicable category.

Chinese: HSK5 at least 180; Chinese-medium undergraduate or master graduates may request a waiver with university certification and SEM approval. English: TOEFL 5.5 on the new scale or 100 on the old scale, or IELTS7.5, valid through May31,2027 or later when applying. Alternatives: TOEFL iBT Home Edition100 (MyBest and ITP Plus China not accepted), PTE Academic69 or Duolingo135. English-medium bachelor graduates/current students may waive English scores. GRE: total320 and Analytical Writing3; the website says this requirement may be waived from the 2025 admissions cycle. Confirm waiver availability.
