Qualification: A valid high-school diploma obtained through full-time, in-person education is required. Applicants awaiting graduation must submit the documents specified in the 2027 checklist and obtain the diploma before enrollment. Nationality: A valid foreign passport and eligibility under PRC nationality law are required. The applicable categories of former Chinese nationals, and foreign nationals born to Chinese parent(s) who were settled abroad at birth and who never acquired Chinese nationality, are subject to the 2027 nationality instructions, including four years of foreign nationality and two years of overseas residence during the preceding four years, assessed to April 30 of the entry year. At least nine months abroad in a year may count as one year. Minors: Applicants younger than 18 on September 1, 2027 must provide guardian guarantees and supporting documents at registration. The guardian must reside in Beijing and have income.

Language requirements

Chinese: HSK Level 5 or above, with scores above 60 in each of Listening, Reading and Writing. HSK waiver: Native Chinese speakers or applicants whose high school instruction was in Chinese may apply with supporting evidence, subject to Tsinghua approval. English: Non-native English speakers must submit official proficiency test results, such as TOEFL or IELTS. The general eligibility page does not specify a common numerical minimum.
